A project to transform the museums in the Province of Savona into places to gather, participate and exchange

The local area of Savona is unique for its ceramics tradition that over the centuries has been explored by great artists but that has also been the focus of production for small local businesses.

Thanks to the uniqueness of this area, in 2014, the Museo della Ceramica di Savona, the MuDA Museo Diffuso di Albissola Marina (Casa Museo Asger Jorn, Centro Esposizioni, Fornace Alba Docilia and Lungomare degli Artisti), the Museo Manlio Trucco di Albisola Superiore and the Museo Civico Villa Groppallo di Vado Ligure, completely renewed what they had to offer, creating a true museum area, highlighting the great tradition of art and craft that the local area has to offer both at a national and international leve

The newborn museum area has great potential that for the moment is still partially unexpressed, potential that could make the ceramics of the local area a distinctive asset, and be used to create network projects and fundamental exchanges, to build the cultural identity of the Province of Savona.

The target of visitors to the museums who are the best witnesses of the history of the local area are the over 55 population. This is why the Associazione Amici di Casa Jorn and BAM! have created Senior Museum, one of the winners of Open 2015, a competition promoted by Compagnia San Paolo, that aims to involve this target of the public in making museums a places gather, participate and exchange.

The project will involve a senior group of people, who, throughout 2017 will become spokespeople for the community by developing new ways of sharing, creating new activities and new ways of communicating which will then be proposed to institutions. All citizens who want to contribute their own ideas and creativity will also be invited to work on these activities.

The main activities of the project are:

  • A seminar and guided tours: which enabled a first group, who were contacted through the Università della Terza Età UniSabazia and Uni Albisola, to get to know the project, the context and to get in contact with the museums
  • Questionnaires and Focus groups: to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the museums involved thanks to the Senior team
  • Workshops: the most active and concrete phase, a real project filled with activities and events, as well as an ad hoc communication plan to present to the museums
  • Pilot Event: organized by one or more museums in the area

At the end of 2017, after the data collected has been analyzed, the Senior Working Group will be called back with the aim of working with them to plan new activities for 2018 and setting up an advisory body that works closely with the museums.

BAM! is a partner of the project and is involved in coordinating aspects relating to communication and organizing various phases relating to audience development, together with the Associazione Amici di Casa Jorn.
