“La Città dei Matti”: crowdsourcing initiative launched for workshop on the history of psychiatry in Imola

By 29 April 2025No Comments

Following the first phase of the participatory process that we facilitated in 2024, a consortium of partners is working to create the Workshop on the History of Psychiatry in Imola in Pavilion 10-12 of the Parco dell’Osservanza in Imola, which will be launched in early 2026.

On 24 February 2025, a crowdsourcing campaign was launched to collect memories and testimonies related to the former Osservanza psychiatric hospital, with the aim of reconstructing the history of this place through the direct involvement of the local community.

The collection process via the website www.cittadeimattilab.it is open to everyone: former patients, family members, healthcare workers and anyone who has experienced or has direct or indirect memories of this place. Every contribution will be essential in building a collective narrative that restores dignity and visibility to an important part of the city’s history.

The material collected will then be studied, analysed in depth and incorporated into the museum design and curatorial project currently being developed by Hibou Heritage & Digital Humanities.

A participatory museum that will not just display artefacts, but will be a place for open dialogue, enhanced by first-hand accounts and supported by innovative technologies to make this memory accessible to everyone
