We’ve reached the final stage of the Performing Gender workshop cycle: in Bologna from 14 to 20 December. Save the date: the grand finale open to the public on Thursday 20 December at the Arena del Sole.
The last of five Performing Gender workshops – which we talked about here – will take place in Bologna and will be coordinated by Gender Bender Festival and Cassero LGBTI Center. Ten young professional dancers try out new techniques together with the dance maker Jija Sohn and the dance dramaturg Greta Pieropan.
“What is natural? What is beauty? An Italian proverb says: If you want to look beautiful, you have to suffer from a thousand troubles, is it true? Or is it a myth?”
The participants will explore a series of questions about naturalness, beauty and the relationship between them. How much do we play with our identity and aesthetics? The workshop is designed to be a test bed, where dance and research are not just about working up a sweat: the dancers, alongside Jija and Greta, will create an inclusive environment where individual personalities are transformed into a powerful collective, and where collaboration is fundamental and even fun.
The final workshop sharing will take place on the last day, Thursday 20 December at 9 p.m. at the Teatro Arena del Sole (Sala Thierry Salmon) with free entry. The performance will be followed by an after-talk with the public.
