Working with the community to imagine the Eastern Gothic Line ecomuseum of the future

While it is true that one of the most classic forms of Museomix is the museum collection remix marathon, over the years we in the Italian community have always experimented with others, bringing this approach to ever-changing areas, projects and contexts.

On Saturday, 23 November, members of the Museomix Italia team were in Montegridolfo, in the province of Rimini, for a day of discussion and co-planning open to the community, as part of the “Dentro la Linea della Memoria. Verso l’ecomuseo della Linea Gotica Orientale” event. The project, which involves the municipalities of Montegridolfo, Gemmano, Montescudo-Montecolombo, Sassofeltro and Montefiorenato, was created to support local institutions and the community in the shared planning of a new Eastern Gothic Line ecomuseum.

For those who live in the Valconca and the surrounding areas, the Gothic Line is much more than a piece of military history from the Second World War. It is an indelible mark made up of memories and physical traces left on the land and in the community, which now feels a strong need to protect and preserve its memory, working together to construct a story for future generations.

The Museo della Linea dei Goti in Montegridolfo hosted a morning of in-depth discussions on the concept of an ecomuseum. Following a communal lunch, participants shared their ideas and perspectives on the future Gothic Line ecomuseum.

Which places? Which heritage? But also, and above all, which ideas? Which values? Which meanings? These were some of the key questions that guided the participants as they worked in groups to map the community. Stepping into the shoes of different potential audiences, they explored needs and ideas, shaping a project that aspires to be, above all, a shared home.

A day that ended with lots of ideas and with the awareness of a great heritage to be remixed!
