As part of a broader rethinking of the city’s cultural spaces, the Comune di Correggio has begun renovating two of the city centre’s most iconic buildings: Palazzo Contarelli and Palazzo dei Principi.
Rethinking Palazzo Contarelli and Palazzo dei Principi together with the community
The Project
Why?
Recognising the importance of involving citizens in decisions that impact the common good, the Comune di Correggio has chosen to introduce instruments for community participation and active listening. The aim is to bring forward ideas and needs, fostering collaboration in shaping the spaces of the new city cultural district.
How?
The project involves two main phases of engagement with the local community, as well as regional and industry stakeholders. The first phase will focus on Palazzo Contarelli, funded by the Regione Emilia-Romagna’s 2021 Urban Regeneration Grant; the second phase will involve citizens in rethinking the use of the spaces in Palazzo dei Principi, currently home to the library.
BAM! is supporting the Comune di Correggio in the design and facilitation of the two participation pathways, with a particular focus on the following activities:
- Context analysis and benchmarking
- Establishing a coordinated identity to support public participation and guide the creation of content
- Design and management of all stages of the participatory process in collaboration with the Comune: meetings with local residents, negotiation table, drafting of reports highlighting the outcomes of the process for residents, the municipality and designers
- Organisation and facilitation of all the meetings
