Comprehensive support to revitalise one of Sardinia’s archaeological landmarks

The Project

The Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Nuoro, pertaining to the Direzione regionale Musei Nazionali Sardegna, houses some of the most important palaeontological and archaeological finds from the Nuoro area. Reopened in 2021 with a temporary exhibition, it has now embarked on a process of improving accessibility and thoroughly rethinking its identity, spaces and collection, in collaboration with the community and stakeholders.

Why?

The modernisation process for the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Nuoro faces multiple challenges that require a strategic approach: interpreting the transformations in the museum sector, incorporating digital tools and languages, enhancing the active role of the public and ensuring better accessibility. Added to this are the needs of regional and tourism development, in the context of Nuoro, which already boasts a vibrant museum scene with great potential.

How?

BAM! is supporting the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Nuoro through a process of participation and co-design, with the aim of creating a new brand, developing audience engagement guidelines and implementing a participatory, collaborative approach that brings the public closer to the museum. This involves a number of steps:

  • participatory meetings and exploratory walks with communities and stakeholders, to listen to their needs, perceptions and wishes regarding the museum;
  • branding and coordinated identity development activities, informed by the insights gathered during participatory meetings, aimed at refreshing the museum’s image and positioning it in a contemporary context;
  • context analysis and creation of an audience development strategy, designed to connect the local context with public needs and to outline clear development trajectories;
  • a creative marathon to attract new audiences and imagine the museum of the future together with the community.
