Mapping training needs and designing a capacity building programme for the cultural sector

The Project

The “Cultural Heritage Active Innovation for Next-Gen Sustainable Society” project, funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU programme, sees the Fondazione CHANGES as the central hub, involving 11 universities, 4 research organisations, 3 advanced schools, 4 businesses, 3 third-sector organisations and 1 centre of excellence.
One of the main objectives of the extended Changes partnership is the need to create a training programme that actively transforms the research results and skills developed by the partners into real opportunities for learning and professional growth. The 14-month project focuses on continuous training in the cultural and creative sector and is aimed at various target groups, including government personnel, cultural sector professionals, local communities, teachers, researchers, and personnel from partner companies.

Why?

The Fondazione CHANGES has identified the need for an internal training programme to strengthen the interdisciplinary skills of the extended partnership, facilitate knowledge sharing and promote the adoption of new approaches.
To ensure an effective programme aligned with the project’s objectives, the Fondazione sought external support. In response, the DINAMICA network proposed conducting a training needs analysis and co-designing the training programme.

How?

BAM! Strategie Culturali, in partnership with the Dinamica network (formed with Melting Pro and Ideazione Srl), is supporting the Fondazione CHANGES in the development of this training programme. The approach is centred on analysis, design and facilitation, with the goal of creating a community of practice that includes PhD students, young researchers, professionals and companies within the sector.

In collaboration with its partners in the Dinamica network, BAM! has been conducting a comprehensive mapping of both existing and strategic cross-disciplinary skills essential to the cultural and creative sector. This analysis is grounded in a framework that includes both soft and hard skills compatible with the cultural and creative fields. It involves gathering data through a self-assessment questionnaire targeted at PhD students, research fellows, and researchers already involved in the CHANGES project, as well as conducting interviews with the coordinators of the nine spokes. This ensures that the content and approach of the training programme align with the actual needs of the participants.

Based on this preliminary analysis, the DINAMICA network designed the training programme, which includes online masterclasses, peer learning meetings and a summer school.

Together with its network partners, BAM! is also supporting the creation of the CHANGES Faculty, a consultation body that provides guidance and validation for the training programme. The programme covers strategic topics such as the digitisation and management of cultural heritage, participation, sustainability and the green transition.

The project is funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 4 (Education and Research), Component 2 (From Research to Enterprise), Investment 1.3 (Extended Partnerships), Theme 5 (Humanistic culture and cultural heritage as laboratories of innovation and creativity).
