Il museo intorno: the pilot event for the Museo Senior project

The first steps of Museo Senior

BAM! Strategie has been working on the Museo Senior project in the Savona area for around a year now. The project has been developed in partnership with the Associazione Amici di Casa Jorn and is supported by the Compagnia di San Paolo as part of the Open 2015 tender. BAM! is responsible for coordinating the communication and structuring the various audience development activities.
The initial phases of this process involved organising seminars and meetings that gave a number of citizens the opportunity to learn about the project and its context, coming into direct contact with the museums in the ceramics district.
During a second phase, questionnaires, focus groups and workshops were used to create a group of more than fifty seniors, all of whom were keen to be involved and some of whom signed up to the more practical side of the project as curators and communicators.

From Museo Senor to Il museo intorno

By contributing their stories, passions and skills, the seniors therefore began playing an essential role in terms of curatorship and communication, but first and foremost they developed and organised the Museo Senior pilot event: Il museo intorno.

Il museo intorno took place from late October to December 2017, involving a cycle of four free guided tours conducted for the purpose of transforming the ceramics museums in the province of Savona into places for coming together and getting involved, connecting their collections to the surrounding area.

Multiple roles for BAM! Strategie Culturali

The ongoing partnership between BAM! Strategie Culturali and the Associazione Amici di Casa Jorn can be summed up as a role of providing support and assistance for senior citizens in creating and developing “Il museo intorno” activities.

This means that BAM! Strategie Culturali is part of the project dynamics:

  • From an operational standpoint, supporting citizens in identifying the organisational tools and methods for guided tours;
  • From a communications standpoint, seeking to implement and promote the project firstly in the local area, and also to a broader audience using digital communication techniques;
  • From a strategic standpoint, as facilitators with a key role in transferring memories, witness accounts and values to key activities designed to share them, adopting engagement and inclusion mechanisms.
