From 9 to 11 October, BAM! and another six European partners launched the Erasmus+ European project
CREMA came about due to the need observed among European museums to innovate, open up to new audiences and become places for adults to socialise and learn (lifelong learning): a reference point for local communities, as well as for tourists and students.
BAM! forms part of a group of partners that includes museums, makerspaces, consultants to the sector and museum networks. They will be pooling their experience in interaction between traditional and digital creative crafts (making) and collections, along with the skills offered by museums.
The partnership comprises the project leader Regional Museum di Skåne (Sweden), the Finnish Museum Association, the Hungarian Open Air Museum, the Lithuanian organisation Creative Museum, History & Art (an integral part of the Culture sector in Copenhagen), Radiona Zagreb Makerspace (Croatia) and BAM!.
Over the next three years, the Erasmus+ CREMA project will map out the European context and produce a series of guidelines that propose innovative and sustainable methods and activities for museums and creative organisations with a view to:
- using museum materials in creative making
- involving new audiences
- entrepreneurial capacity building
- promoting intergenerational learning
- reaching disabled audiences
The challenge facing BAM! particularly involves coming up with audience development and audience engagement strategies to be adopted in order to:
- use these activities to reach people who do not visit museums regularly, with a particular focus on those in marginalised situations
- promoting intergenerational discussion, between traditional crafts and digital making
- reaching disabled audiences
