Working towards a new cultural information system, from strategic design to communication

The Project

The Provincia Autonoma di Trento stands out for its rich and diverse cultural offering, which is set to grow significantly and carve out a strong position for itself. The development of a cultural information system (CIS) – as defined by Provincial Law no. 15 of 3 October 2007 – is a strategic decision that will help ensure the area’s growth and promotion.

Creating an ongoing monitoring and assessment system provides an opportunity to boost the area’s identity, to take informed decisions and to improve the cultural programme on various levels, by supporting planning, optimising resource management, and encouraging transparency and the sharing of information with local residents.

Why?

The Department of Culture of the Provincia Autonoma di Trento, in partnership with the Fondazione Franco Demarchi and BAM!, has launched a project to strengthen data collection and analysis, expanding the CIS’s information resources. These activities will make it possible to assess the impact of the investments made by the Provincia Autonoma di Trento while also initiating dialogue with, and carrying out research among, cultural audiences across the region. This approach aims to maximise the effectiveness of cultural initiatives and identify and address the barriers that prevent people (particularly local audiences) from engaging with cultural organisations.

The working group comprises BAM! alongside the Unità di Missione Strategica per i beni e le attività culturali, the Servizio Attività e produzione culturale della Provincia autonoma di Trento, ISPAT – Istituto di statistica della Provincia Autonoma di Trento – and the Fondazione Franco Demarchi.

How?

Following a series of co-design meetings with the working group, BAM! is responsible for:

  • defining a reference model
  • designing the data collection tools
  • coordinating the administration processes
  • setting up tools and data collection
  • drawing up a strategic document and action plan for the new CIS

Alongside support for the new CIS, a key strand of the project focuses on developing an identity system as a strategic tool for positioning the region’s cultural sector and strengthening its representation at both regional and national level. BAM! is working on the development of:

  • the visual identity
  • a set of multichannel communication guidelines, including social media and advertising strategy
  • the necessary graphic adaptations for ongoing promotion and communication

The first phase of the project was presented at the CIS launch event in 2026, marking the start of a programme of data collection and analysis that will continue until 2028.
