From Liguria to Poland: BAM! illustrates the case of the Museo Senior in Katowice

From 27 to 29 May, BAM! will be in Katowice as the only Italian participant in We Are Museums, the international conference on the role of museums in present and future society

The seventh We Are Museums will be taking place in Katowice, Poland, on 27, 27 and 29 May 2019. Every year, this international conference brings together more than 300 museum professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, students and artists from all over the world, in order to reflect on the future of museums.

We Are Museums is a community, a network of professionals that meets once a year for a packed programme of talks, discussion panels, case study presentations, themed guided tours and work tables. Last November, the conference launched an international call for contents that could enhance the programme in the form of workshops.

BAM! was the only Italian organisation to be selected. On Monday 27 May it will hold a workshop called Memory makes history: an audience engagement strategy for senior citizens, in which it will share the Museo Senior project case study with participants.

This will be an opportunity to introduce an international audience to the entire process of senior audience research, communication and engagement that BAM! Strategie Culturali and Amici di Casa Jorn conducted in Savona and province for almost three years, supported by Open funding from Compagnia di San Paolo.

The three main themes for this year’s We Are Museums, which is returning to Europe after its first African edition (in Marrakesh in 2018), will be:

MuseumHood – social responsibility for museums in community inclusion
Museum for Good – the role of museums in building an environmentally sustainable future
Entrepreneurial Museum – establishing an entrepreneurial mindset and culture in museums
