MuseoMix is an open community made up of people united by a love of culture, technology and innovation, with a shared vision of an open, connected and participatory museum.
MuseoMix is a meeting opportunity for mediators, makers, designers, programmers, communicators, artists and scientists, who come together in the heart of a museum for a fun three-day creative marathon, putting their heads together to imagine and build innovative mediation devices that enable people to experience the museum in a different way.
MuseoMix is an idea that was first developed in France and is now gaining ground around the world.
Bologna MuseoMix Italia was founded on 8 October. This community developed entirely spontaneously following a meeting between around forty people from organisations and museums from all over Italy, all of whom attended Juliette Giraud’s workshop “Museomix: dare spazio alla communità”, as part of The Creative Museum international conference, organised by the Istituto per i Beni Artistici Culturali e Naturali dell’Emilia-Romagna.
BAM! was also present and we got to work straight away to create some community support tools, around which all those potentially interested in the project could group together. This led to the development of the museomix.it website, the Facebook group and the Twitter account with a view to providing the Italian community with a meeting and sharing space and an initial reference point for all those intending to organise a MuseoMix event at a museum or take part in its development.
Within a very short space of time, lots of people and museums have already shown a big interest in the subject (the Facebook group now has around 200 members) and many of them have taken steps to find out more about the international organisation and report back to the community with examples and contributions. In November, we will be taking part in some important events for the growth of the community and the possibility of remixing a few Italian museums:
- MuseoMix 2015: from 6 to 15 November, museums from around the world will be remixed and some members of the Italian community will visit them to experience the process for themselves. The BAM! team will be in Nice to see the remix of the first national museum: the Musée National du Sport.
- Italian community meeting at the Musei Civici di Reggio Emilia, coordinated by IBC, an opportunity for those who took part in the various events all over Europe to describe their experience and a chance for an open discussion to learn more about the community members, identify the team needs and draw up plans for a potential Italian MuseoMix event.
