Museum education and mediation professionals share practices and visions for the museum of the future

A conference on museums and education, organised by the Musei Civici di Reggio Emilia in partnership with BAM! Strategie Culturali, took place in Reggio Emilia on 30 November and 1 December 2018.

It was an event packed with invaluable ideas and solutions for everyone working in any capacity in the field not only of education, but also of audience development and audience engagement.

To follow up the conference, BAM! has published an ebook that brings together and explores the contributions made by the speakers invited to Reggio Emilia.

This is the story behind the creation of Crescere al Museo. Educazione e innovazione per immaginare il futuro, produced in partnership with the Musei Civici di Reggio Emilia and with contributions from Annemiek Spronk / Rijksmuseum,  Federica Facchetti and Alessia Fassone / Museo Egizio, Eugenia Ferrara / Fondazione Golinelli, Samuela Caliari / MUSE Museo delle Scienze di Trento, Margherita Sani / IBC Emilia Romagna, Giovanna Brambilla / GAMeC Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, Annalisa Casagranda / MART Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto and Daniele Campagnoli / Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna.

The publication develops along two lines: on the one hand, the challenges faced by museums and their education departments today, including the engagement of a younger audience, social inclusion and accessibility, audience engagement, mediation and contemporary languages. On the other, the alliances that the museum can form to modernise what it has to offer and strengthen its relations with the public – alliances between stakeholders, between the museum and the community, and also internal alliances, between the various disciplines covered by the museums.

Each contribution is accompanied by a case study: the presentation of a project that exemplifies the strategies implemented by the institutions and the professionals who helped with the creation of the ebook.

The ebook is freely available to consult online and share via social media. It can also be downloaded in pdf format. All the video content in the ebook can also be watched on BAM!’s vimeo channel

The ebook is a follow-up to the Crescere al Museo. Educazione e innovazione per immaginare il futuro conference. Find out more about the project and look at the programme to see the speakers.
