A new identity and a wayfinding project to guide people through Valdagno’s civic library.

The Project

Built in the late seventeenth century, the Biblioteca Villa Valle is a landmark for Valdagno (VI) and the surrounding area, as well as one of the most important historical buildings in the entire valley.

Attentive to the demands of modernity but respectful of its roots, the Comune di Valdagno has committed itself to implementing new solutions, making spaces accessible to more and more people.

The decision to renovate the library required a re-evaluation of accessibility, incorporating a new universal communication approach and a clearer user journey.

Why?

BAM! revamped the library’s logo and designed a new signage system. On-site communication was reimagined to better convey the library’s heritage to the public, guiding them in exploring its various sections.

How?

BAM!’s primary goal was to strengthen the library’s identity and highlight its cultural heritage. By addressing emerging needs and analysing the diverse users of the space, we redesigned the logo to enhance its clarity and legibility.

The slogan “Il mondo a portata di mano” (The world at your fingertips) became the concept for designing the signage, adopting a tone of voice that reflects the surrounding environment: a place of discovery and inspiration, but at the same time welcoming, making readers feel at home

The wayfinding system was designed to complement the library’s architecture and artistic decorations. The colour palette was carefully selected to harmonise with the existing hues.

The custom-designed icons and pictograms, inspired by the ARASAAC symbol set, enhance accessibility for individuals with complex communication needs. The inclusion of the schwa (ə) fosters a more inclusive and welcoming tone. The chosen font aligns with the library’s visual identity while ensuring readability and accessibility.
