Live conference reporting: microblogging, video interviews and in-depth analyses

The project

Museums and the Web is an international conference dedicated to the relationship between museums and places of culture on the one hand, and the new paradigms of digital culture on the other. The conference was held annually in Asia and North America from 1997 onwards. However, from 19 to 21 February 2014, the conference was held in Europe for the first time, at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Museums and the Web Florence (MWF2014) was organised by the Musei Civici di Firenze in partnership with the Fondazione per la Ricerca e l’Innovazione dell’Università di Firenze and the PIN – Polo Universitario Città di Prato.

Why?

The organisation of MWF2014 led to the establishment of an unprecedented partnership to ensure that the Italian version of the conference reached its full potential. BAM! was involved as a media partner.

How?

BAM! decided to use a number of different tools to report on MWF2014:

  • we gathered the opinions of some of the main players involved in MWF2014 before the conference started
  • live microblogging on twitter, from the various conference rooms, during the conference itself
  • our wrap-up at the end of each day, with the “best bits” from the conference
  • we also stole some of the speakers’ time to produce some short video interviews on the most innovative subjects at the conference
