The DOORS (Digital Incubator for Museums) project initiated by MUSEUM BOOSTER, Ars Electronica and Ecsite, is part of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
DOORS is a two-stage incubation process that supports small and medium museums by providing expertise, knowledge and funding for the implementation of digital projects that can improve public enjoyment.
A five-museum mentoring process to support them in developing a sustainable and lasting digital transformation project.
The Project
Why?
DOORS was created with the aim of supporting museums at a time when the digital race is accelerating strongly in the cultural sector too and the digital transformation of museums is now seen as a necessary, pressing and even exciting undertaking.
BAM! staff members, together with other professionals, were involved as mentors in the second incubation phase to support five of the twenty European museums participating in the programme.
How?
Mentors play a key role, advising and supporting museums in the implementation of their pilot projects, with an approach that combines face-to-face training, shared moments of learning and facilitation in making strategic choices.
In the second incubation phase, BAM! will design and conduct a number of custom mentoring meetings for each museum, constructed on the basis of the pilot project and the specific needs that were previously identified and that allowed the museums to be divided into two clusters: Innovating audience analysis and engagement and New content distribution and revenue models.
The museums being mentored by BAM! are:
- Muzeon – Storytelling Jewish History Museum
- Museo Civico Vignola Augusta Redorici Roffi
- Musée Royal de Mariemont
- The Neanderthal Museum
- Museum Arbeitswelt
